Here’s how it works!

It’s as simple as…

Bag it:
Place aluminum and plastic containers in the same bag; place glass bottles in a taped box.

Tag it:
Affix your personalized bag tag securely to your bag or your box.

Drop it:
Below each drop door is a scanner that will read your bag tag bar code, unlatching the lock. Then open the door to drop your bag and/or box inside.

Who can use Droppett?

Iowa residents who paid a $0.05 deposit on beverage containers purchased in the state. We also serve non-profits and causes by facilitating redemption-based fundraising.

How do I sign up?

How does Droppett work?

  1. Attach a Droppett bag tag to each bag or box. Use a 13-gallon bag (standard kitchen size) or larger for aluminum and plastic. Use a box that will easily fit through the 24″ x 30″ drop doors for glass.
  2. At the Droppett depot, scan the bag tag at the drop door scanner. The door will unlock.
  3. Place your bag inside and close the door. Repeat for each bag and/or box.

How do I check my balance?

Log in here with your username and password.

How do I get my money?

Once your balance reaches $15.00, request a transfer to your personal checking account (transfer takes 24-48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays). Donations to partner charities can be made at any balance. Log into your Droppett account and follow the instructions.

Do I need a bank account?

Yes, a checking account is required for fund transfers.

Container Drop-Off

Do I get a receipt when I drop off bags?

No, your bag is logged when scanned. Processing takes up to 10 days, and your account updates once completed.

By scanning your bag tag at the Droppett Depot or at our office, your bag is automatically logged in our system. There is no need for a receipt.

How do I receive my funds and how long until my funds appear?

Your account will be credited once your containers are scanned, counted, and processed. Processing takes up to 10 days from pickup, but most bags are processed within 48-72 hours.

What containers are accepted?

  • Plastic, aluminum, and glass beverage containers in which a deposit was paid. Iowa’s bottle bill covers all carbonated and alcoholic beverages.
  • Must be whole (not crushed) with a legible barcode.
  • Plastic bottles should have caps on but need to be completely empty. Containers with liquid in them are difficult to process.

What kind of bags can I use?

  • Any 13-gallon (standard kitchen trash bag) or larger that can be tied at the top.
  • No retail store bags (plastic shopping bags), the tags don’t stick well.
  • Glass bottles must be in a securely taped box with a bag tag on top. The drop doors are 24″ x 30″, please use a box size that will fit easily into the depot.
  • Weight limit: 20 pounds per box.

Where do I get more tags?

You can pick up bag tags at our office (Mon-Fri, 7 am – 1 pm) or you can submit a request online by logging into your account and selecting “Request Bag Tags”, and we will mail them to you.

Can I print my own bag tags?

Because each tag has your unique and personalized barcode, they must be printed by Droppett and mailed to you or printed by you at the kiosk located at our headquarters located in Des Moines at 1600 East Euclid Avenue.

When can I drop off my containers?

Anytime! Depots are accessible 24/7. If the depot is too full for you to drop off your containers, please call us at 515-265-4275 ext. 5.

About Us

At Droppett, we believe redeeming beverage containers should be easy, clean, and convenient. That’s why we’re reimagining the redemption experience for Iowans—making it faster, simpler, and hassle-free.

With the opening of our 10th bag drop location, Droppett is quickly becoming the preferred way to redeem in Iowa. Just bag, tag, and drop—no sorting, lines, or mess. Already the fastest-growing redemption method in Maine, New York, Connecticut, and Oregon, Droppett is now bringing that same clean and modern experience to communities across Iowa.
Droppett is powered by CRINC (Container Recovery Inc.), a statewide logistics company with more than 40 years of experience in beverage container processing. CRINC collects from all 99 counties weekly—now, with Droppett, that expertise is working directly for you.

We’re proud to build a better, more sustainable container drop system for Iowa—one drop at a time.
